New to DA? Read below!

Thank you for considering the DeNogla Academy. We are so excited to welcome your son/daughter into our school. Please find below frequently asked questions and respective responses. And of course, if your inquiry is not listed, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Q: My child has never taken any form of dance before. May I enroll him or her in Irish dance lessons?

A: Absolutely! There is no experience necessary to join our school. All skill levels are welcomed!

Q: At what age can my child start to take classes?

A: Three years old, & up! Our “Tiny Tot” class, also referred to as “Pre-Beginner”, welcomes dancers ages 3-6. Dancers who are new to Irish dancing and 7 or older may enroll in our beginner class.

Q: What should my child wear to Irish dance class?

A: Your child should wear anything he or she feels comfortable dancing in! Most dancers wear shorts, leggings, sweatshirts, and t-shirts. Dancers will eventually need proper Irish dance shoes, called “soft shoes”, but beginners may wear socks, sneakers, or ballet slippers for the first few months!

Q: My child is interested in Irish dancing, but we are not of Irish descent. Will he or she still feel welcomed?

A: OF COURSE! While Irish dance is a fun way to celebrate Irish heritage, it is a sport that welcomes students of all ethnicities and backgrounds. While many of our students are Irish, many are not, too. You don’t have to be Irish to Irish dance!

Q: My child currently dances at a different Irish dance school. Does DA accept transfer students?

A: Yes, we accept transfer students. Please note that, as per CLRG rules, your dancer will have to sit out of competitions for 6 months, which as known as a “restyling period”.
